A biological monitoring of snapper fish was carried out in the Brisas del Mar neighborhood of Puerto Barrios, Izabal. The activity focused on two species, Lutjanus synagris and Lutjanus griseus, aiming to improve control and monitoring of landings as well as data collection about the country's fishing resources.

The monitoring was conducted by technical staff from the Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture Regulation (DIPESCA), which is part of the Vice Ministry of Agricultural Health and Regulations (VISAR) under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA). This effort is one of several technical services designed to provide information about population structure, sizes, and biological conditions of marine species.

According to officials, these monitoring activities are essential for generating scientific information that supports sustainable management of fisheries resources. They stated that this helps ensure ecological balance and benefits communities relying on fishing along Guatemala's Caribbean coast. "These monitorings are fundamental for generating scientific information that contributes to sustainable management of fishery resources, ensuring ecological balance and the well-being of communities dependent on fishing activities in the Guatemalan Caribbean," they said.
