On November 4, twelve families from Estanzuela, Zacapa participated in a session of the Nutrition Club, a community program aimed at helping parents with children suffering from acute malnutrition. The event focused on practical learning about healthy eating, hygiene, and child care.

During the session, mothers exchanged experiences and learned new recipes to ensure their children receive balanced diets using local ingredients. A nutritionist from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) gave a talk on the importance of home and school gardens as ways to produce fresh vegetables rich in nutrients. The nutritionist also discussed how regular monitoring of children's height and weight can help detect malnutrition early and provide support for recovery.

Representatives from the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MSPAS) provided information about handwashing practices, malnutrition prevention, and maintaining a balanced diet. Other demonstrations included cooking sessions led by educators from Rural Home Education and Family Agriculture Extension programs within MAGA. A representative from the Secretariat for Food Security and Nutrition (SESAN) helped prepare ceviche made with Protemás—a protein-rich product sourced locally.

The day ended with a representative from the Municipal Office for Food Security and Nutrition (OMSAN) teaching families how to make a nutritious drink using Incaparina, reinforcing lessons learned during the club meeting.

These activities are coordinated by MSPAS, SESAN, OMSAN Estanzuela, and MAGA as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen food security and improve nutrition among Guatemalan families.
