Tesalia cbc and Holcim Ecuador have announced a partnership focused on sustainable water management. The two companies will collaborate over the next five years to optimize the use of more than 41,000 cubic meters of treated water. The initiative aims to reuse treated water from Tesalia cbc in the production of concrete at Holcim Ecuador’s San Eduardo plant.

The agreement is described as an example of industrial symbiosis, where resources are shared between companies to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact. Treated water from Tesalia cbc will undergo advanced purification processes before being used by Holcim Ecuador for concrete manufacturing.

Aníbal Mujica, Director Cluster of cbc Ecuador and Peru, stated: “Water is essential for life and its conservation is a priority at Tesalia cbc. That is why we implement rigorous measures for control, reduction, and reuse of water in our operations. This agreement with Holcim Ecuador reinforces our purpose to contribute to a better future and reaffirms our commitment to the responsible, efficient, and sustainable use of every resource.”

Holcim Ecuador has also made efforts to reduce fresh water consumption by 24% during the first half of 2024 through rainwater collection systems and recycling equipment.

Dolores Prado, CEO of Holcim Ecuador, said: “At Holcim Ecuador, sustainability is at the core of our business strategy. We continually strive to improve our processes and adapt in order to achieve a positive impact on the environment. This collaboration with Tesalia cbc is an important step towards transforming our industry and conserving water.”

The project supports several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation), SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production), and SDG 17 (partnerships for the goals). By working together, both companies aim to set an example for responsible resource management within their industries.

To ensure quality standards are met, Tesalia cbc manages traceability from initial capture through treatment processes such as sedimentation, filtration, purification, disinfection, storage in controlled tanks, and additional testing before use in concrete production.

Both companies highlight that this collaboration not only brings environmental benefits but also demonstrates how business partnerships can positively impact society by contributing toward a more sustainable country.
