Cbc has been recognized as the best sustainability bond issuer of the year, receiving the “ESG Bond Deal of the Year” award at the Bonds & Loans Latin America and Caribbean 2022 event. The event, organized by GFC Media Group, highlights outstanding achievements in credit markets across the region.
According to Cbc, its sustainability model incorporates environmental, social, and governance dimensions as central elements of its strategy and value creation. The company stated that this approach aims to contribute solutions to major challenges facing Latin America and promote prosperity in the region. "The launch of our first SLB in January this year is an example of the conviction that the company has in its purpose," a spokesperson said.
The issuance reportedly generated significant interest from investors, which Cbc interprets as a sign of confidence in both its financial performance and long-term sustainability agenda.
Throughout its history, Cbc says it has maintained a belief that companies should use their skills and resources collaboratively to expand knowledge, innovation, and technology for societal and environmental benefit. "Its sustainability model is aligned with major objectives set by humanity through the United Nations system and other global initiatives to protect biodiversity and create better conditions for comprehensive and inclusive development," according to Cbc.
Cbc joined several international initiatives over recent years: it adhered to the United Nations Global Compact in 2013; adopted the Women's Empowerment Principles from UN Women in 2018; committed to science-based carbon reduction targets through Science Based Target Initiative (SBTI) in 2021; and endorsed Stakeholder Capitalism Metrics promoted by the World Economic Forum in 2022.
Recognizing current environmental challenges such as climate change, Cbc set emission reduction targets for this bond issuance aligned with Business Ambition goals aimed at limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C. The company is also transitioning toward a circular economy model by certifying its production plants under Carbon Trust’s Zero Waste to Landfill standard.
