CBC, a Central American beverage company, has announced the adoption of global sustainability metrics promoted by the World Economic Forum. The company stated that this move reinforces its commitment to supporting local implementation of international standards aimed at benefiting both the planet and the communities where it operates.
According to CBC, it is now the first company in Central America to incorporate these environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics, known as Stakeholder Capitalism Metrics, into its sustainability strategy and governance pillar. CBC has committed to including these metrics in its future sustainability reports.
"The initiative of the World Economic Forum will help unify how sustainability reports present ESG metrics, thus facilitating foreign investment and integration into regional and global value chains," CBC said in its statement.
The company noted that these ESG metrics are based on existing standards and can be reported regardless of industry or region. This comparability is seen as important for creating a globally accepted set of common norms for reporting corporate sustainability performance.
CBC also highlighted that this initiative responds to the "Call to Action" from U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, which urges private companies and social enterprises to promote economic opportunities in the region as part of a broader strategy to address structural causes of migration.
