The Superintendencia de Administración Tributaria (SAT) has announced progress in the modernization of Guatemala’s Fiscal Vehicle Registry (RFV) through the launch of a new digital system, RFV Digital. The initiative aims to simplify and speed up vehicle-related procedures for Guatemalans.
Previously, obtaining license plates required completing 13 steps, a process that could take up to 30 days. With the introduction of RFV Digital, users can now register new vehicles online via SAT’s Virtual Agency in just five steps. The process is expected to take five minutes, after which plates can be collected immediately at an SAT service point. Documents already held by the tax administration will not need to be resubmitted.
Werner Ovalle, Superintendent of SAT, stated: “This process of modernization is part of the institutional strengthening we are promoting to facilitate all procedures for taxpayers. In addition, it demonstrates the commitment of the Tax Administration to efficiency, transparency and accessible management for all users.”
SAT indicated that these measures focus on automating tax processes to encourage voluntary compliance and improve service for Guatemalans.
