Educators from rural households in the municipalities of Granados, El Chol, Cubulco, Rabinal, Salamá, and Purulhá in Baja Verapaz participated in a workshop organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA). The purpose of the event was to update and strengthen their professional skills.
The coordinator for Rural Home and Youth in Baja Verapaz opened the activity. She welcomed new team members and provided information about general operations within the Directorate of Regional Coordination and Rural Extension (DICORER), outlining the roles and responsibilities educators have within their communities.
A nutritionist from MAGA’s Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture component delivered a presentation on nutrition across different life stages. Using educational materials designed for community training sessions, participants learned strategies to promote healthy eating habits. They also discussed how to adapt nutritional information to meet the needs of rural families, reinforcing their work in education and nutritional support at the community level.
These workshops are part of MAGA’s ongoing professional development efforts for its educators. According to MAGA, this ensures that fieldwork is supported by solid technical knowledge and practical tools aimed at improving food security and nutrition in Guatemala’s rural communities.
