The Municipal Agency for Rural Extension (AMER), part of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA), has distributed 400 jalapeño pepper seedlings, 200 onion seedlings, 100 cobanero pepper seedlings, and 100 tomato seedlings to 15 producers in the Cristo Rey village, located in Dolores, Petén.

According to MAGA, this effort is aimed at strengthening family farming and supporting local vegetable production as a way to promote sustainable development in rural areas. The distributed seedlings are expected to help families establish small gardens for both their own consumption and for sale within their communities. This could lead to more fresh food options and new economic opportunities locally.

“With these actions, MAGA reaffirms its commitment to improving nutrition and quality of life for rural families by promoting sustainable agricultural development in the department of Petén,” stated the ministry.
