The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) has delivered 14,400 broiler chickens to 144 small poultry farms across the Petén department. The distribution took place in the municipalities of San Luis, Poptún, Dolores, Melchor de Mencos, El Chal, La Libertad, Las Cruces and San Benito.

Along with the chickens, MAGA also provided 576 feeders, 576 drinkers, 576 sacks of starter feed and 576 sacks of finisher feed. The aim is to strengthen production capacity and improve poultry management at each farm.

The initiative was coordinated by staff from the Department of Livestock through the Directorate of Agricultural Development (DAGRO), under the Deputy Ministry for Petén Affairs (VIPETÉN).

According to MAGA: "Gracias a estas acciones, se impulsa el desarrollo económico local y se promueve la autosuficiencia alimentaria en las comunidades del departamento." ("Thanks to these actions, local economic development is promoted and food self-sufficiency is encouraged in the communities of the department.")

The project was carried out in three phases during March, June and September 2025. With these deliveries completed, MAGA concludes its annual plan to support poultry production in Petén.
