In Pasaco, Jutiapa, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) has begun distributing free food rations to families experiencing food insecurity. According to MAGA, a total of 5,382 households are expected to benefit from this initiative.
The distribution process is being carried out in a planned and phased manner to ensure orderly and efficient assistance for all beneficiary families. The government states that this action demonstrates its commitment to ensuring the right to food and strengthening food security and nutrition in Guatemala.
Each ration includes rice, beans, vegetable oil, nixtamalized corn flour, oats, sugar, and a fortified blend of corn and soy flour. These items are selected to provide essential nutrients for a balanced diet.
The Directorate of Food and Nutritional Assistance (DAAN), under the Vice Ministry of Food Security and Nutrition (VISAN), is responsible for implementing the program. The Municipal Commission on Food Security and Nutrition (COMUSAN) is also involved in coordination efforts. Oversight is provided by the Office of the Comptroller General to ensure transparency in distribution.
Additionally, 6,427 food rations have been delivered to Zacapa’s departmental capital as part of this phase. These will be distributed free of charge in the coming days to vulnerable families in that municipality.
