Staff from the Community Food Production Support Directorate (DAPCA) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) visited the San Francisco communal garden in Pajapita, San Marcos. The visit aimed to strengthen community food security and encourage sustainable farming practices.

The communal garden is managed by 12 women farmers who work together to grow food for their families and support the local economy. During the monitoring and technical assistance visit, MAGA technicians provided guidance on weed control and improving bean crop staking using materials available on site. These recommendations are intended to help optimize plant growth and yield.

The garden includes a variety of crops such as maize—identified as the main crop—along with black nightshade, chipilín, beans, cucumber, bell pepper, eggplant, and zucchini. This diversity contributes to providing nutritious produce for participating families.

“These actions form part of the technical support that MAGA provides to rural communities,” according to MAGA staff.
