Technical staff from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) collected samples of white shrimp and chacalín on October 22 in the Pacific region of Guatemala. The sampling is part of the project "Determination of the Reproductive Period of White Shrimp and Chacalín from Trawl Fishing in the Pacific of Guatemala."
The collected samples will be analyzed to obtain scientific information aimed at establishing the reproductive period for these species. This research seeks to inform sustainable management measures and strengthen fishing regulations in Guatemala.
The initiative involves personnel from the Directorate for Fisheries and Aquaculture Regulations (DIPESCA) under the Vice Ministry of Agricultural Health and Regulations (VISAR), working together with the Center for Marine Studies and Aquaculture (CEMA) and the General Directorate of Research at Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala (DIGI-USAC).
According to MAGA, "With these actions, MAGA reaffirms its commitment to research and conservation of fishery resources, ensuring ecological balance and responsible development of fishing activities on Guatemala's Pacific coast."
