Tomás Arias has been awarded the 2025 Charles L. Stillman Prize in the book or treatise category for his work "La teoría jurídica liberal y el debate sobre estado administrativo." Other recipients include Andrés Azmitia, recognized for his essay "El acceso al mercado no es gratuito: Tribus, instituciones y los costos de asociación"; Nasly Ustáriz, honored for her journal article "La paradoja de la actividad intermediadora de la banca: Incentivos y riesgos"; Olav Dirkmaat, who received an award for his article "¿Cómo se compara el salario mínimo de Guatemala? Una comparación regional y las consecuencias del reciente incremento"; and Luis Figueroa, awarded for his column "Etanol, ¿quién paga el daño?". Azmitia, Dirkmaat, and Figueroa received their awards on November 7, 2025 during a ceremony honoring distinguished graduates at Francisco Marroquín University.

The Board of Directors of Francisco Marroquín University invited professors from Spanish-speaking countries to participate in this competition. The contest was established to recognize published or unpublished research on the philosophy of liberty in its moral, economic, political or legal aspects.

In 1986, the Henry Luce Foundation made a donation to Francisco Marroquín University to create a fund in memory of Charles L. Stillman, who served as president of the foundation from 1936 to 1958. The donors intended that the fund be used to strengthen UFM’s core commitment to intellectual rigor.

"With each edition of the Charles L. Stillman Prize, the academic community reaffirms its vocation for serious research and its commitment to freedom," according to organizers.

"The mission of UFM is the teaching and dissemination of the ethical, legal and economic principles of a society of free and responsible persons," stated university representatives.
