The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food held a training session in the village of Mangales, Santa Cruz Muluá, Retalhuleu. The aim was to strengthen food security and promote sustainable practices within the community.

David Bámaca, a nutritionist with the Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture component, spoke to beneficiary mothers about the importance of establishing family gardens. He said these gardens can be a source of fresh and healthy food, which helps improve household economies and the local environment. "Establishing family gardens as a source of fresh and healthy food contributes to improving household economies and the environmental surroundings," said Bámaca.

During the event, participants transplanted onion, black nightshade, and coriander seedlings. They also cleaned weeds from cultivation areas. Seeds for chipilín, green beans, onions, and coriander were distributed so that planting could continue in the garden.

The women involved committed to care for and maintain the community space. The activity was led by an extension worker from the Municipal Rural Extension Agency.

This initiative was coordinated with the Secretariat for Food Security and Nutrition (SESAN) and the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MSPAS).
