Corporación Multi Inversiones, CMI, received the certification of the ISO 50001: 2018 standard in Energy Management System for its units and business lines from the CMI Alimentos business group in Costa Rica.

The operating plants that received the certification are FHACASA, Alimentos del Norte, Pollos Pura Vida and Proave, San Mateo Incubator Plants, Plums and Flours AVI, dedicated to the milling of wheat flour, poultry production and balanced food for animals and pets. This certification recognizes the efforts and achievements that CMI Alimentos has implemented to make its energy management more efficient, in line with its values and commitments in the area through better energy performance.

“At CMI, Corporación Multi Inversiones we are committed to transformation, continuous improvement and the development of strategies that contribute to sustainability. In this sense, the efficient use of energy means using available resources in the correct way and preserving non-renewable energy sources are key elements to contribute to the well-being of the communities in which we have operations and the environment ”, said Marco A. Matouk, Senior Director of Transformation and Technology, CMI-Alimentos

The ISO 50001: 2018 standard aims to maintain and improve an energy management system in the organization, which allows a continuous improvement of energy efficiency and security. It also allows finding new ways to use energy and energy consumption with a systemic approach to inventory inventory of energy consumption, it allows to identify high consumption and implement action plans to reduce them.

According to data from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, UNIDO, the implementation of an energy management system of this type allows energy consumption to be reduced between 5% and 20% in the first two years. This translates into savings of at least 1,325 MWH per year for CMI certified plants, thus avoiding the emission of 100 tons of CO equivalent during this period of time.

These achievements are part of the initiatives that CMI has implemented thanks to the joint work of the business groups CMI Alimentos and CMI Capital, this time with the support of the Energy Unit belonging to CMI Capital, the Strategic Transformation Unit and the Finance Units of the Corporation, sharing internationally recognized good energy practices to achieve operational efficiencies.

“This is an achievement that has been possible thanks to the collaborative work between CMI Capital and CMI Alimentos and especially the CMI Energy Unit, who were key in this process of implementation and continuous improvement. It is also a recognition of the work teams in the certified plants, who with their leadership and commitment make this achievement possible ”, concluded Matouk.
