Corporacion Multi Inversiones recently issued the following announcement.

Diego Alejandro Quan, graduate of Engineering in Energy Systems at the Galileo University under the Scholarship Program of the Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Foundation, who is now pursuing a Master's Degree in Energy and Process Technology in Mechanical Engineering at the Delf University of Technology, The Netherlands; It continues to reap successes, since after having won multiple recognitions for various projects, on March 6 it won one more recognition, after participating and winning the Best Young Biomass Researcher 2020 Award, awarded by the WSED in Wels, Austria, for his work "Evaluation of the performance of traditional and improved biomass - Stoves in rural Guatemala".

This research, where he carried out the experimentation part in Guatemala together with a fellow engineer from Guatemala and later at the Delf University of Technology, continued his research development with a fellow MA from India. Diego directed the entire project and a scientific committee evaluated the research methodology and depth, giving him first place in its category.

The WSED is the World Sustainable Energy Days a series of conferences and activities that seek to put energy efficiency first and global leadership on renewable issues, through stronger policies and competitive entrepreneurship, innovation in technology, investment and involvement of society, where More than 660 experts from more than 60 countries participate.

Diego Quan

Diego's project was based in Chiquimula, since that department is where the highest deforestation rate occurs. He had the support of COOSAJO, Cooperativa de Ahorro y Crédito San José Obrero, who was an economic facilitator and contact with the communities. Thanks to them, we worked with 85 families from 10 communities, for a total of almost 500 people studied, quantifying their consumption of firewood in traditional methods and comparing them with the 7 most competitive methods worldwide, obtaining and analyzing a lot of information with the use of latest technology measuring instruments, either from efficiency in biomass consumption, wood humidity, air quality and the presence of pollutants and micro-particles in the air, among others, for more than two weeks.

All this research and these recognitions help Diego in the elaboration of his thesis and will help him in the very near future to develop a method that is zero emissions, locally accessible and culturally acceptable, since this last point is very important to allow Communities accept the change and manage to improve in terms of biomass consumption and also in terms of health.
