“We want to thank all the Guatemalans who joined this cause, empowering children to fight cancer through the purchase of raffle tickets Join. This year, thanks to the efforts of the 15 thousand employees of the four partner companies, 1 million 650 thousand 375 tickets were sold Join us, which gives us the opportunity to continue providing free treatments for children with cancer and, thus, have the power of being cured of this disease. ” said Luis Fernando Valladares, representative of the partners Join.

The delivery was made within the framework of International Childhood Cancer Day, which is commemorated on February 15 and seeks to promote that all children with cancer have access to medical care. This is precisely the spirit of the Great Raffle Join, in support of the Help Me Live Foundation, which since 1997 has been working to provide free treatment for the patient, to children with cancer in Guatemala.

The AYUVI Foundation, through the UNOP Pediatric Oncology Unit, provides a comprehensive cancer treatment that includes, in addition to medications and hospitalization, psychological, food, transportation and other assistance. Since 2017, there is also the AYUVI Occidente satellite clinic, where outpatient treatments, diagnosis and follow-up are provided to patients. These aspects are decisive, taking into account that, on average, one treatment per patient has a cost of Q450 thousand quetzals and a duration of eight years to complete the entire treatment. On the other hand, 90% of the families served by AYUVI are poor and 70% of the total number of patients comes from within the country.

AYUVI's work has had very positive results, to date, 3,000 children are free of the disease, while 7,040 patients have been diagnosed and more than 9,000 have been given care. In addition, the dropout rate has dropped from 42% in 1997 to just 1%. During 2019, coverage was 61.6%, a great achievement for the project, since in previous years half of the children with cancer were treated in the country.

“ At the Help Me Live Foundation, we have the dream that all children who are diagnosed with cancer in Guatemala can access early and comprehensive comprehensive treatment, at no cost to the patient and his family. For this reason, we thank both the support of the Great Raffle Join, the partner companies and their collaborators, and each of the people who believe in our project and participate year after year, because thanks to them we can raise the funds that allow us Continue with our work. Seven out of ten children are cured, early detection and adequate treatment being the key, so our commitment to children and the opportunity to transform their lives positively is permanent. ” Mariana López of Fundación Ayuvi finished.
