Algeria will assume, in 2020, the presidency of three (03) important international energy organizations namely, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPAEP), and the Forum of Gas Exporting Countries (GECF), which testifies to the place it occupies on the international energy scene, said on Sunday a press release from the Ministry of Energy.
"The Ministerial Council of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPAEP) entrusted, during its 103rd meeting closed on Sunday in Kuwait, the presidency to Algeria for the year 2020" announced the press release.
Thus, Algeria will have to chair, during the next year, three (03) important international energy organizations namely, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPAEP) , and the Forum of Gas Exporting Countries (GECF), which testifies to the important place and the great confidence which Algeria enjoys on the international energy scene, specifies the same source.
On this occasion, the head of the Algerian delegation, the CEO of the SONATRACH Group, Kamel-Eddine Chikhi, expressed the pride of Algeria in assuming this responsibility.
“Our country will continue to support OPAEP with the aim of encouraging the Arab oil industry and complementarity between its member countries to allow this sector to fulfill its role as a driver of socio-economic development at the service of our Arab countries, "said Chikhi.
In this regard, the representative of Algeria said that "the year 2020 will be rich in activities aimed at consolidating cooperation between all members to work together to preserve market balances for producer and consumer countries ".
As a reminder, the Ministerial Council of OPAEP had appointed the Kuwaiti Ali Sabt Ben Sabt Secretary General, for a term of 03 years, from March 1, 2020 to replace Mr. Abbas Ali Naki.
In addition, the head of the Algerian delegation met, on the sidelines of the meeting, with the Minister of Petroleum, Electricity and Water of the State of Kuwait, Khaled Ali al-Fadhel, the Minister Egyptian Petroleum, Tarek Al-Molla, the Minister of Petroleum of Bahrain, Sheikh Mohamed Ben Khalifa Al-Khalifa and the Minister of Energy and Industry of the United Arab Emirates, Suhail Mohammed Farej Al Mazroui.
The talks focused on ways to consolidate cooperation and partnership in the fields of Oil and Gas.
Algeria had taken during a ceremony organized before the start of the works of the 17th ministerial meeting of the Joint Monitoring Committee of the Opep-non-Opep agreement, held on December 05 in the Austrian capital Vienna, the rotating presidency of OPEC, which it will insure from January 1, 2020, succeeding Venezuela.
To this end, the Minister of Energy, Mohamed Arkab, had declared that the member countries of OPEC qualified the next year "of a year of challenges", underlining that the ministers of OPEC welcomed the presidency of Algeria for the next period, thanks to its good relations with all countries.
Algeria should have an active role in bringing together views within the framework of the Opep-non Opep cooperation agreement, aimed at supporting crude oil prices.
Note that during the 21st ministerial meeting of the Forum of Gas Exporting Countries (GECF), held on 02 and 03 October 2019, in Moscow (Russia), the ministers approved the proposal to hold the 22nd ministerial meeting of GECF in Algeria in November 2020. (APS)
