Corporacion Multi Inversiones issued the following announcement on Aug. 12.

The Renace Hydroelectric Complex is the largest hydroelectric project in Guatemala, with a total installed capacity of 301 MW, which contributes 16% of the country's hydropower. In addition to being pocisionado among the first three producers of renewable energy in Central America.

In recent years, the renewable energy component has increased. Electricity generation contracts have been tendered and thanks to these tenders, there is solar, wind and biomass energy, which also contribute to the energy matrix.

In addition, the evolution of the energy matrix in Guatemala has a direct impact on the amount of CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions, which are produced through the generation of electricity.

According to the 2017 Energy Summary, provided by the Ministry of Energy and Mines, 17.6 million tons of CO2e were produced in Guatemala. 27% of these emissions (4.7 million tons of CO2) corresponded to electricity generation activities, however, hydropower had a zero share (0%) and was mostly due to mineral coal (91%).

An example of the positive impact that hydroelectric plants have on the carbon footprint is the Renace Hydroelectric Complex. With the generation of clean energy from the hydroelectric plant, tons of CO2 are no longer emitted. Generating development without damaging the environment.
