The Renace Hydroelectric Complex awarded acknowledgments to the NGOs, civil society actors and local government entities for their contribution to social development in 29 Q'eqchi 'communities in San Pedro Carchá, Alta Verapaz.

Alta Verapaz has been recognized for its high rates of poverty and child malnutrition, which affect its population. For 2016, it was estimated that poverty in the department reached 83% and extreme poverty 54%.

Despite that, Renace recognized the great potential for growth and improvement that Alta Verapaz has. He has invested in creating economic and social value that converts the benefits of investment into development opportunities for people.

The strategy of shared social value made it possible to reduce chronic malnutrition by 32%, acute malnutrition by 35%, school promotion by 2% and school re-enrollment by 1%.

Christopher Albrigo, manager of social management of the Renace Hydroelectric Complex, indicated that the collaborative model they have carried out in Alta Verapaz goes beyond corporate social responsibility.

"They involve other key actors who are also involved in the development of society," Albrigo said, recognizing that shared social value is the pillar of community development.
