Corporacion Multi Inversiones issued the following announcement on Nov. 5.
The University Scholarship Program was born in 2000, in a cooperative effort of the National Science Olympics, where Mrs. Isabel Gutiérrez de Bosch, president of the Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Foundation, met a young Guatemalan native of Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, who was the winner that year of the First Place in Chemistry medal.
Doña Isabelita asks the young man: Tell me, you will continue studying at the university being the best chemist in Guatemala, what pride? To which the young man replied: "I will not continue studying at university, because I have to work with my father who is a bricklayer's assistant to contribute to my family's economy". The response moved the foundations of Doña Isabel and put before her eyes the reality of millions of talented young Guatemalans who for various reasons can not realize with their own means the dream of having a university academic degree, young emerging leaders, with all the strength , all the intelligence, all the potential to join the productivity and development of our country.
Since then, the Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Foundation has awarded university scholarships to young people, of whom 111 are still students and 99 are already graduates.
