The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) recently organized a training event in Sansare, El Progreso to promote healthy eating practices among rural women. The session was conducted by the ministry’s Rural Home extension team and brought together 56 participants from various local Learning Centers for Rural Development (CADER), including La Trinidad, Los Cocos, La Estación, and the municipal center.
During the event, community members worked with MAGA extensionists to prepare nutritious dishes using locally sourced ingredients. These included banana bread, sweet squash (ayote en dulce), colored tortillas, yuca with sauce and pork cracklings (chicharrón), chipilín tamales, and protein-based ceviche featuring different meats.
MAGA professionals also led discussions on "The pillars of food security and nutrition" as well as "The importance of gardens." The program included interactive games and activities designed to encourage participation and support learning among rural women.
