Guatemala attends UNWTO Americas commission meeting focused on sustainable tourism

Guatemala was represented by Anayansy Rodríguez, Director General of the Guatemalan Tourism Institute (INGUAT), at the 68th meeting of the Regional Commission of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for the Americas. The event took place in Quito, Ecuador, on June 27 and 28.

The meeting brought together tourism authorities from across the continent to discuss important issues related to regional tourism development. Leaders and representatives from both public and private sectors attended to share ideas, experiences, and best practices in sustainable tourism.

As part of the agenda, participants joined a seminar on sustainable investments titled “A strategy towards competitiveness.” The seminar addressed how investment in tourism can drive economic and social development while protecting natural and cultural heritage. Panelists and experts shared their knowledge about how sustainable investments can strengthen tourism competitiveness in the region.

During the meeting, member country representatives discussed various topics such as destination management, tourism promotion and marketing, technological innovation, and connectivity.

The importance of the Americas as a diverse region with rich natural landscapes and cultural heritage was highlighted. Tourism is seen as a key factor for economic and social development in many countries within the region by generating jobs, promoting inclusion, and contributing to economic growth.

The UNWTO Regional Commission meeting and its seminar aimed to enhance cooperation among members to promote sustainable tourism as a driver of development and competitiveness. The events also provided opportunities for strategic alliances among key stakeholders in the sector.
