The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) in Guatemala has received bids for the public tender PET-3-2025. The public event was led by Víctor Hugo Ventura Ruiz, Minister of Energy and Mines. The aim of this tender is to strengthen Guatemala's energy infrastructure with a transparent process.

Representatives from the National Electric Energy Commission (CNEE), including President Luis Ortiz, Director Marcela Peláez, and Director Jorge Araúz, were present at the event. The only bid submitted came from the Empresa de Transporte y Control de Energía Eléctrica (ETCEE) of INDE.

The next step involves the evaluation committee reviewing both technical and economic aspects of the proposal before moving forward with awarding the contract.

Minister Ventura Ruiz stated that PET-3-2025 represents “a strategic commitment to ensure that energy generated in different regions reaches consumers efficiently, with quality and reliability.” He also said, “with this tender we seek to expand and modernize our transmission network, reduce bottlenecks and facilitate the integration of new generation sources, including renewables.”

Guatemala is currently conducting three major tenders—PET-3, PEG-5, and PIER—as part of an effort to transform its national electricity system. These actions are intended to change the country’s energy matrix and provide electricity access across all regions.
