Small coffee producers in Jalapa, Guatemala, have received training on the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) as part of an initiative by the Vice Ministry of Rural Economic Development. The session took place in Buena Vista village and targeted members of the Asociación de Integración Económica (ASOINE).
The training focused on explaining the main principles of the EUDR, its prohibitions, obligations along the value chain, due diligence procedures, and important compliance dates. According to organizers, this information is considered essential for producer organizations that want to access or maintain a presence in the European Union market.
A key objective of the workshop was to provide technical and legal tools to strengthen producers' commercial sustainability and competitiveness amid evolving international standards.
As a result of the session, 22 participants—10 men and 12 women—gained greater understanding of how the EUDR affects their operations. They also expressed commitment to implementing good production and administrative practices, improving traceability processes, and ensuring due diligence.
