The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA), through its Vice Ministry of Food and Nutritional Security (VISAN), has distributed food aid to 18,549 families in vulnerable situations in San Pedro Carchá, Alta Verapaz, and San Miguel Uspantán, Quiché. The initiative aims to improve the living conditions of those affected by poverty and food insecurity.

Families received packages containing beans, rice, nixtamalized flour, vegetable oil, oat flakes, sugar fortified with vitamin A, iodized salt, as well as corn and soy flour also fortified with vitamin A. The assistance is provided free of charge.

Deliveries were made simultaneously in both regions: 7,218 families in San Pedro Carchá and 11,331 families in San Miguel Uspantán. The process was coordinated by staff from the Directorate of Food and Nutritional Assistance (DAAN) within VISAN. Due to high demand for support, the distribution is expected to conclude in the coming days.

According to MAGA officials: "This nutritional assistance contributes to improving the quality of life for people who are experiencing poverty and at risk of food insecurity."

Personnel from the Office of the Comptroller General were present during deliveries to ensure transparency and proper distribution of aid.
