The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) has organized a practical workshop on artisanal jam preparation in the Poza de la Pila community, located in the municipality of Ipala, Chiquimula. The initiative is part of the Rural Home component.
The main goal was to teach participants how to turn local fruits into value-added products by applying proper hygiene, preparation, cooking, and packaging techniques.
According to MAGA, "the activity aimed to teach participants how to transform local fruits into value-added products using appropriate hygiene, preparation, cooking and packaging techniques."
During the session, attendees learned about basic preservation principles such as using low temperatures and sugar as a natural preservative. They were taught how to make jams from sweet potato, pineapple and orange. The training also included guidance on how these methods could be used at home.
"The MAGA seeks to promote rural agroindustry and improve the quality of life for farming families through initiatives like this one that encourage income generation and better use of local resources," stated the ministry.
These types of programs are designed to support rural communities by providing skills that can help increase household income and make use of locally available agricultural products.
