Workshops were held simultaneously in Alta Verapaz and Guatemala City on November 13 as part of the ongoing process to update and socialize the Institutional Response Plan (PIR) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food (MAGA). The events aimed to strengthen technical capacities among institutional staff and improve coordination for emergency situations in the agricultural sector.

The workshops were coordinated by the Directorate of Geographic Information, Strategy, and Risk Management (DIGEGR). In Alta Verapaz, participants included representatives from departmental offices in Alta and Baja Verapaz, the Directorate of Regional Coordination and Rural Extension (DICORER), and technical experts from the Executive Secretariat of the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (SE-CONRED).

At the same time in Guatemala City, local stakeholders from the Central Region joined to provide technical input for improving institutional response capacity. Both sessions encouraged sharing experiences and inter-institutional collaboration. A practical exercise was conducted in Alta Verapaz as a model for emergency action, highlighting the importance of coordinated risk management.

Representatives from MAGA’s Emergency Committee attended both workshops. The committee is chaired by Minister María Fernanda Rivera Dávila. According to the press release: "Minister María Fernanda Rivera Dávila has instructed technical teams to actively develop risk management and prevention actions that contribute to institutional strengthening and national resilience."

The ministry stated: "With these actions MAGA reaffirms its commitment to comprehensive agro-risk management, strengthening technical coordination and institutional preparedness for timely and effective response to threats impacting production and food security in the country."
