Between February and October of this year, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) organized 147 Farmer's Fairs across Guatemala. These events have provided a platform for producers and consumers to connect directly, supporting both rural economies and access to fresh products.

According to MAGA, the fairs benefited 24,091 consumers who purchased items such as vegetables, fruits, staple grains, dairy products, eggs, honey, and other fresh foods. The ministry highlighted that these sales were made without intermediaries. This approach has allowed consumers to receive fair prices while ensuring product quality.

A total of 3,741 producers from different regions participated in the fairs. The economic activity generated by these events reached Q1,629,474.50. MAGA stated that each purchase at the fairs represents real support for rural economies and recognizes the work of those who provide food for Guatemala.

“These results show that this marketing model benefits everyone: producers who find a secure market and consumers who gain access to fresh and affordable food,” according to the press release.

The Farmer's Fair initiative is coordinated by several entities within MAGA: the Vice Ministry of Rural Economic Development (VIDER), the Vice Ministry of Food Security and Nutrition (VISAN), and the Directorate of Regional Coordination and Rural Extension (DICORER).

“With these actions, MAGA seeks to promote inclusive value chains, rural entrepreneurship and commercial links in agricultural production,” said officials from MAGA.

The ministry continues its efforts to strengthen direct connections between agricultural producers and Guatemalan families through similar initiatives.
