Mothers in San Juan Alotenango, Sacatepéquez, who are part of the Club de Niños con Desnutrición Aguda (NDA), took part in a nutrition education session aimed at improving dietary practices in households with children facing acute malnutrition.
The event was organized by the Ministerio de Agricultura, Ganadería y Alimentación (MAGA) as a part of the local Comisión Municipal de Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutricional (COMUSAN).
A nutritionist from the Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture component of VISAN led the training. She explained the importance of providing a balanced and nutritious diet and conducted a practical workshop on preparing a recipe using Swiss chard, eggs, and cheese. The nutritionist emphasized the benefits of each ingredient for children's recovery.
Participants were involved in preparing the dish and learned about including all food groups and serving appropriate portions based on children's ages.
A psychologist from the Alotenango Health Center also discussed emotional aspects related to eating habits, with support from a representative of the Secretaría de Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutricional (SESAN).
