As online shopping becomes more common, many people are turning to digital payment solutions for convenience and speed. Mobile apps allow users to pay or receive money quickly, but these tools also come with risks.
Banco Industrial highlights that many businesses and individuals use digital payment services such as Zigi or BiPay from Corporación Bi. However, the bank warns that using these platforms requires careful attention to security.
Common threats include fake online stores designed by cybercriminals to steal financial information, misleading discounts or promotions used as traps, and the dangers of making purchases over public Wi-Fi networks where attackers can intercept sensitive data. Additionally, some users download unofficial wallet applications or fail to enable basic protections like PIN codes or two-factor authentication (2FA).
To stay safe when shopping online, Banco Industrial advises consumers to only install and update apps from official stores, activate 2FA on their wallets and banking apps, avoid sharing codes through calls or messages, secure their phones with a PIN or biometric lock, check that websites start with “https://” and display a security padlock icon, use trusted networks for transactions, be wary of offers that seem too good to be true, keep receipts for payments made, and regularly monitor account statements.
Banco Industrial states: "The security of your information is everyone's responsibility!"
The bank further recommends: "Never click on links nor provide personal data through unexpected emails, text messages or phone calls. If you have any doubts, contact us only through our official channels."
Banco Industrial emphasizes that while technology offers new ways to manage money digitally, it is up to each user to remain vigilant against cybercrime. The institution encourages customers to take simple steps—such as verifying websites before entering information and enabling extra security features—to help protect their digital assets.
"Remember: your digital money is worth as much as the cash in your pocket. Protect it with the same care," says Banco Industrial.
