The Universidad Rafael Landívar, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC), has presented a report titled “Research on Early Childhood Conducted in the Last 10 Years in Guatemala: Bibliographic Review.” The event was organized by the Faculty of Humanities and the Educational Quality Observatory URL–EJEGUA (OCE). Alongside the report, a database containing bibliographic records of the publications included in the study was also introduced.
This initiative arose from discussions with the General Directorate for Educational Evaluation and Research (DIGEDUCA), which identified a need to analyze scientific output related to early childhood over the past decade. The goal is to support decision-making, set joint research agendas, and highlight the importance of comprehensive development during early childhood.
University officials, faculty members, students from the Faculty of Humanities, representatives from OCE, and DIGEDUCA officials—including its director Dr. Edgar Montúfar and consultant Irma Paiz—attended and participated in presenting these findings.
The project involved six sections of the course “Research Foundations I” within specialty teaching programs. Students worked under faculty guidance to design methodology that included defining search strategies, establishing inclusion and exclusion criteria, and creating bibliographic records for analyzed publications.
Technical and methodological support was provided by OCE, which oversaw information systematization. Mgtr. Héctor Barrios contributed by integrating results into an academic analysis document.
“This collaborative work reflects Universidad Rafael Landívar’s commitment to comprehensive student education,” according to university representatives. “It demonstrates how scientific knowledge generated in classrooms can provide real solutions to national needs.” They added: “It also shows academia’s ability to coordinate efforts with state institutions, promoting networked work and strengthening applied educational research.”
