The Universidad Mesoamericana participated in the International Conference “Participatory Models in Salesian Higher Education: Synodal and Salesian Facilitation,” held at the Salesian University of Rome. The event, organized by the Institutions of Salesian Higher Education (IUS) under the Department of Salesian Youth Ministry, is part of the Jubilee of Education 2025.

Representing Universidad Mesoamericana was Father Rómulo Gallegos Alvarado, SDB, Rector of the university. He joined leaders, rectors, and educators from other Salesian institutions to share experiences and best practices aimed at strengthening educational models and pastoral missions in higher education.

During the assembly activities, Father Rómulo Gallegos Alvarado presented a copy of the book "Memorial de Sololá" and an issue of "Diotima" magazine to Father Fabbio Attard, Rector Major of the Salesian Congregation. According to the university’s statement, “This symbolic delivery represents the cultural and academic richness of Universidad Mesoamericana as well as its commitment to preserve and disseminate historical legacy and humanist thought that characterize Salesian education.”

Father Gallegos also made a special presentation outlining strategic lines and institutional projects currently promoted by Universidad Mesoamericana. Topics included strengthening research initiatives, fostering academic innovation, increasing engagement with social contexts, and consolidating a vibrant Salesian identity within educational and pastoral work.

His participation highlighted ongoing efforts by Universidad Mesoamericana in Guatemala to address current needs of youth and society through holistic education inspired by Don Bosco’s values. The conference marks a step toward preparations for the IUS General Assembly scheduled for 2026 in Rome.

The university noted that “the presence of Father Rómulo Gallegos Alvarado, SDB, at this meeting reaffirms Universidad Mesoamericana’s commitment to the Salesian mission, academic excellence, and collaborative work for an education with a humanistic Christian focus.”
