The Guatemalan Social Security Institute (IGSS) organized a medical health campaign at Ingenio La Unión, located in Santa Lucía Cotzumalguapa, Escuintla. The event benefited more than 1,200 workers.

The main goal of the activity, held at the medical clinic of the sugar mill, was to detect possible health issues early and strengthen preventive care among employees. IGSS medical staff carried out blood pressure checks, glucose measurements, nutritional assessments, and provided personalized counseling to identify risk factors and guide participants on healthy habits.

These efforts are aimed at encouraging self-care and reducing chronic diseases among workers. The initiative is part of IGSS’s strategy to bring healthcare services closer to workplaces and promote preventive, timely, and quality care.

Authorities from Ingenio La Unión noted that this partnership with IGSS strengthens occupational health and shows a shared commitment to the safety and well-being of their workforce. “This alliance with the Institute strengthens occupational health and reflects a shared commitment to the safety and well-being of the human team that drives each harvest,” said officials from Ingenio La Unión.

The IGSS medical team provided preventive check-ups and guidance to support a safe and healthy harvest season.
