The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) has started distributing 2,321 food rations to families who participated in community development projects. The distribution began on Saturday, November 8, as part of the Alimentos por Acciones (APA) program.

Food deliveries are taking place simultaneously in several municipalities and departments across the country. This initiative is intended to recognize the efforts of rural communities that promote local development and strengthen their food security and nutrition.

The distribution covers the following areas: Huehuetenango, Jacaltenango with 187 families; Izabal, El Estor with 897 families; Suchitepéquez, San Pablo Jocopilas with 756 families; Sacatepéquez, San Bartolomé Milpas Altas with 165 families; and Zacapa, Teculután with 316 families.

Beneficiary families took part in activities such as establishing family gardens, planting trees for agroforestry systems, cleaning reservoirs, dams, ponds and canals, as well as building chicken coops and compost bins.

The food incentive consists of a ration including rice, nixtamalized flour, black beans, vegetable oil, iodized salt, oat flakes, sugar and a fortified blend of corn and soy flour. This composition is designed to provide adequate nutritional support for each family group.

During the distributions in El Estor, Izabal, staff from the Office of the Comptroller General were present to ensure transparency and proper allocation of food assistance.
