In September, Universidad Panamericana (UPANA) hosted the relaunch of the “Generando Futuro” project at its Central Campus. The initiative is led by CACIF Joven and was organized in collaboration with UPANA’s University-Business Liaison Unit. Prior to the main event, a student entrepreneurship competition was held with support from Student Welfare, inviting all members of the UPANA community to participate. Application requirements and information about participating ventures were shared through a digital platform developed by UPANA’s Communication and Marketing department.
M.Th. Mynor Herrera, rector of Universidad Panamericana, stated: “We appreciate the opportunity to carry out entrepreneurship activities like the one CACIF Joven presents to us today, as we are convinced that these activities challenge and strengthen our students’ entrepreneurial spirit. At UPANA we seek to train them comprehensively so they can successfully enter the labor market.”
Seven projects reached the final stage of the competition, with two being recognized for their achievements. The first prize went to Helados Abraycer, represented by Cerlín Carolina León, an ongoing business based in Santa Cruz Barillas, Huehuetenango. Helados Abraycer aims to create change in its community by offering tropical and creamy ice cream flavors in unique presentations. The second place was awarded to Eka Natural Care, represented by Erika Gutiérrez. This venture produces handmade natural cosmetics and seeks not only to contribute to people’s well-being but also to collaborate with women from various communities in producing its products.
The event also featured a panel discussion titled “The importance of alliances in the entrepreneurial ecosystem,” moderated by Mynor Herrera Quiroz, director of UPANA’s IDEUN department. Panelists included Similiano García from CACIF Joven; Andera Cabrera from Wonder Woman; Janma Bardi from Volcano Summit; and Juan Lemus representing Swisscontact’s Startkit project.
Ignacio Lejárraga, president of CACIF, addressed attendees: "Your presence here inspires us and at the same time commits us to continue working enthusiastically to promote more opportunities for young people."
Patricio Astolfi, general director of Nestlé Guatemala, delivered a keynote speech titled “Young Leadership: Navigating the Entrepreneurial World Successfully.” He encouraged young people to step out of their comfort zones, focus on self-knowledge, and pursue big dreams. The event concluded with a networking cocktail session where participants could connect with each other.
Juan Manuel Aquino Matus, president of CACIF Joven said: "We have all started with the dream of entrepreneurship; we have believed in our abilities and along the way we have learned. Let us not lose faith in entrepreneurship or private enterprise which brings us together here today."
