The Universidad Panamericana has entered into a framework agreement for inter-institutional educational collaboration with the Comisión Nacional de Energía Eléctrica de Guatemala (CNEE). The agreement aims to provide both internal and external members of the Commission, as well as university students, with access to educational programs, seminars, symposia, forums, conferences, research opportunities, and internships between the two organizations.
Luis Ortiz, president of CNEE, said: "The University has stood out for its dynamism and focus on productivity issues. It has shown a genuine interest in recognizing the fundamental importance of electricity for economic development, both as a vital input in productive processes and as a business sector in itself.
In the electricity sector in Guatemala, long-term projects are common because they require significant investments and time for recovery. However, thanks to our legal framework that prioritizes freedom and regulates only end-user tariffs and transmission among agents, there is a need to effectively spread knowledge.
In this context, it is essential to take advantage of collaboration between both institutions; therefore we are very pleased to sign an educational agreement with UPANA with the purpose of strengthening the dissemination of key knowledge. Through this partnership we seek to drive the electricity sector toward a prosperous and sustainable future."
Mynor Herrera Lemus, Rector of UPANA added: "The world of electrification is undergoing change and that affects us all both individually and collectively; electrification allows us to develop new sources that lead us toward a revolution in energy use by replacing fossil fuels with others powered by electricity across all sectors. For us as a university we are excited not only to help CNEE audiences expand their knowledge but also be able together to educate new generations of students who understand the importance of development through electrification and all possibilities available for a country like Guatemala with such a diverse energy matrix.
We are very satisfied that joint work begun some years ago is today rewarded by signing this agreement which further strengthens ties between our institutions."
The signing ceremony was attended by Marcela Peláez (director), Jorge Araúz (director), Dean César Cuevas from the Faculty of Engineering, and Dr. Enrique Sánchez from the Faculty of Legal Sciences and Justice.
