The Guatemalan Red Cross and the American Red Cross have held a coordination meeting to discuss ways to strengthen their partnership and expand humanitarian efforts in Guatemala. The meeting included Annabella Folgar, President of the Guatemalan Red Cross, Virna Villeda, General Director, Jarrett Barrios, Vice President of International Affairs for the American Red Cross, Vicente Baamonde, Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, and Verónica Rivera, Country Representative.
During the session, both organizations explored strategies to enhance cooperation and increase humanitarian activities in Guatemala. As part of their visit, Barrios and Baamonde signed the Golden Book of the Guatemalan Red Cross with a message expressing support and gratitude for volunteers working in humanitarian assistance.
The American Red Cross representatives also visited facilities of the Guatemalan Red Cross in Guatemala City to observe ongoing national programs and humanitarian actions. Teresa Marroquín, Director of Risk Management at the Guatemalan Red Cross, joined them during a field visit to La Barranca village in Santa María Cunén, Quiché. There they witnessed an evacuation drill at a community school—a training activity supported by both organizations to improve emergency preparedness.
Additionally, the delegation toured the Institute for Comprehensive Training of the Guatemalan Red Cross where they learned about courses offered on first aid, health issues, and occupational safety for local residents and businesses.
According to both institutions' leaderships, these activities reinforce their shared commitment to strengthening community resilience and improving humanitarian response across Guatemala.
