Cruz Roja Guatemalteca has mobilized its response team to provide humanitarian assistance following increased eruptive activity at the Volcán de Fuego. The organization is working closely with the Coordinadora Nacional para la Reducción de Desastres (Conred), the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance, and local authorities.
Rescue teams from Cruz Roja Guatemalteca are present at a shelter set up in the Municipal Hall of Alotenango, Sacatepéquez. They are providing prehospital care to individuals affected by respiratory issues, anxiety attacks, and other conditions related to the emergency. Medical attention is being provided to those in the shelter in cooperation with health personnel to ensure access to essential services.
Specialized volunteers have also launched psychosocial support activities for children in the Alotenango shelter. These efforts include recreational activities designed to reduce stress and create a safe environment for minors.
Cruz Roja Guatemalteca is participating in coordination efforts at the Municipal Emergency Operations Center (COE) in Alotenango. The organization collaborates with Conred and local officials to assess community needs, manage resources, and strengthen response capacity as volcanic activity continues.
"Cruz Roja Guatemalteca reaffirms its commitment to protect the life and dignity of affected people, providing humanitarian assistance in real time and supporting communities at risk," said a spokesperson for Cruz Roja Guatemalteca.
The public is advised to stay informed through official sources and follow instructions from authorities for their safety.
