Cruz Roja Guatemalteca took part in the 2025 Municipal Macro Drill, an event organized by the Directorate for Vulnerability and Emergency Management (AVE) of the Municipality of Guatemala. The purpose of the drill was to improve preparedness among institutions and citizens for large-scale emergencies and disasters.
At Plaza de la Constitución in zone 1, Cruz Roja Guatemalteca joined AVE MuniGuate, Cuerpo de Bomberos Municipales, Ejército de Guatemala, and Bomberos Municipales Departamentales to conduct exercises focused on prehospital care, search, and rescue. These activities allowed participants to implement response protocols and demonstrated coordination between organizations during simulated crisis scenarios.
Cruz Roja Guatemalteca also participated in several preventive evacuations throughout Guatemala City. At its own facilities, contingency plans were activated with an orderly evacuation of staff and visitors. In collaboration with municipal personnel at the Municipality of Guatemala (zone 1), proper evacuation routes and safety protocols were checked. At the Municipal Operations Center (COM) in zone 12, a simulated evacuation tested the effectiveness of response plans and inter-agency coordination.
The organization emphasized that these drills highlight "the importance of teamwork and a culture of prevention, which are fundamental pillars for saving lives in possible emergencies caused by natural or human-made events." Cruz Roja Guatemalteca affirmed its commitment to ongoing cooperation with other institutions within the National Risk Management System to help protect public safety.
