Cruz Roja Guatemalteca launched a Search and Rescue in Collapsed Structures (BREC) course this Sunday in San Marcos. The training brings together volunteers from the organization, Volunteer Firefighters, Municipal Departmental Firefighters, the Guatemalan Army, and the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (CONRED). The main aim is to strengthen emergency response skills among participating groups.

The BREC course is made possible with support from the European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid and the College of Engineers San Marcos branch. This partnership provides essential resources and specialized knowledge for managing structural collapse incidents.

A team of instructors from several institutions leads the training. Experts from Cruz Roja Guatemalteca, Guatemala City Municipal Fire Department, Volunteer Firefighters, the National Association of Municipal Departmental Firefighters (ASONBOMD), the Guatemalan Army, CONRED, and the College of Engineers of Guatemala are all involved. Their combined experience offers participants a comprehensive learning environment.

The course focuses on advanced search and rescue techniques in collapsed structures, tactical preparation, use of specialized tools, and interagency coordination. Participants will learn how to respond effectively and safely during disasters to save lives and reduce risks.

According to Cruz Roja Guatemalteca, "This course represents a significant step in strengthening emergency response capabilities in Guatemala." The organization adds: "Adequate preparation of rescue teams is fundamental for facing natural disasters and accidents that can endanger many lives."

Cruz Roja Guatemalteca also stated: "We reaffirm our commitment to the safety and well-being of the population. Through initiatives like the BREC course, we continue working to improve preparedness and emergency response in collaboration with other organizations and government entities."
