On the night of December 6, 2024, a road accident in Coatepeque, Quetzaltenango resulted in the deaths of two motorcyclists. The incident occurred on Calzada Álvaro Arzú, a busy roadway in the area. Preliminary reports indicate that both motorcyclists were struck by a vehicle and suffered fatal injuries at the scene.
Response teams from Cruz Roja Guatemalteca and Bomberos Municipales Departamentales arrived quickly to provide assistance. Despite their efforts, both victims were declared dead after initial evaluations due to the severity of their injuries.
Cruz Roja Guatemalteca issued a statement urging drivers and motorcyclists to follow traffic regulations, use safety equipment such as helmets and reflective vests, and drive responsibly to prevent similar incidents.
