Cruz Roja Guatemalteca, with support from ECHO and the European Union, recently conducted a training session on the Early Warning System (SAT) for the Local Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (COLRED) in Aldea Barranca Grande, located in San Cristóbal Cucho, San Marcos.
The workshop aimed to train COLRED members in implementing and managing the Early Warning System. According to organizers, this training is essential for preparing communities for potential emergencies by providing necessary tools and knowledge to respond effectively.
During the event, participants learned about key elements of the SAT such as risk identification, alert planning, and emergency procedures. The training also covered how to use available resources to detect early signs of possible disasters and communicate these alerts efficiently within the community.
The involvement of ECHO was highlighted as crucial for making this program possible. International collaboration enabled access to resources and expertise that have improved local emergency management capabilities.
Cruz Roja Guatemalteca expressed appreciation toward the European Union for its ongoing support and thanked COLRED members for their dedication to community safety. "La capacitación en el Sistema de Alerta Temprana es un paso importante para fortalecer la resiliencia local y asegurar una respuesta eficiente ante emergencias," stated a representative from Cruz Roja Guatemalteca.
