The Guatemalan Social Security Institute (IGSS) held its Second Professional Nursing Meeting, titled “Creating Assertive Leaders to Improve the Quality of Nursing Care,” aimed at enhancing leadership skills and experience-sharing among nursing professionals. The event targeted area supervisors, superintendents, nursing supervisors, service chiefs, and general nurses.

Dr. Rudy López from the Sub-Management of Health Benefits emphasized the institution's ongoing support for the development of nursing staff. "Our commitment is to continue strengthening the nursing profession because behind every act of service there is a story of dedication, vocation, and hope. Thanks to you, each beneficiary receives not only medical care but also understanding and humanity," he said.

More than 200 workers from the Nursing Area attended the meeting at the Colegio de Profesionales in zone 15. The program included keynote lectures, workshops, and sessions focused on developing new skills and improving service quality. These activities align with IGSS’s goal to build strong and prepared teams for health system challenges.

Elsa Verónica Figueroa, Head of the Nursing Section, encouraged colleagues to work with integrity and leadership for patients across Guatemala.

Through this event, IGSS recognized outstanding units such as:
- Outpatient Specialty Medical-Surgical Unit Gerona
- Los Amates Clinic in Izabal
- Clinic and Annex Room at Sololá National Hospital
- Huehuetenango Hospital

Additionally, six employees with over three decades of service received diplomas in recognition of their careers.

Lilian del Carmen Pérez, Superintendent of Nursing at Mazatenango Hospital, thanked authorities for organizing these activities that equip staff with tools for better performance. "It is always very positive to have updates on these topics," she said.

The first professional meeting took place last May under the theme “Transforming Healthcare through Creativity and Technology,” marking the beginning of this ongoing training initiative now strengthened by this second edition.

IGSS continues its mission to improve care quality by supporting professional growth among healthcare workers throughout Guatemala.
