The Clinical Laboratory at the Annex of the IGSS Villa Nueva Clinic has been recognized for providing dignified care to elderly patients and delivering reliable test results for disease management.

Retired individuals such as María Bernavela Jocholá and Morelia González Zepeda frequently visit the unit for routine tests. González, who undergoes diabetes testing every two months, stated, "I am grateful to God and to the institution. Thanks to all the staff for their attention to the patients."

The laboratory, which began operations in March of this year, has processed about 80,000 tests for approximately 5,000 patients—most of whom are older adults—according to service chief Lilian Granados. The facility is equipped with modern technology, including standardized machines capable of processing around 60 hematology samples per minute. There is also a fused module for chemistry and immunology work, equipment dedicated to hormonal samples, coagulation analysis tools, and a semi-automated urine analyzer.

Granados explained, "The category is level 3; that means we handle hormonal sample processing here. We process thyroid and prostate samples as well as some oncological profile samples. That comes with this category. Level 1 manages a simpler profile."

On a daily basis, between 75 and 85 patients are seen at the laboratory, resulting in roughly 200 exams and about 400 individual tests each day. Most of these patients are treated for diabetes.

"We serve pensioned patients who require ongoing monitoring of chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart conditions. The laboratory plays an important role in diagnosing and monitoring these illnesses," Granados added.

The IGSS Villa Nueva Clinic Annex serves an average of 7,000 patients each month. Granados noted that ensuring reliable results begins when the patient enters the facility: "Quality care provides peace of mind to the patient. If someone is stressed or worried, it shows up in their tests." She emphasized that staff offer friendly service so patients feel welcome and trust their results: "We work with the quality that has always characterized us."

María Bernavela Jocholá concluded by saying, "I am a retired person and I am grateful to IGSS for the care they are giving me."
