The Instituto Guatemalteco de Seguridad Social (IGSS) has announced the integration of the Procuraduría de los Derechos Humanos (PDH) into its Empresa Clinic Care System. This initiative aims to provide insured individuals with easier access to social security services.
A new institutional medical clinic was inaugurated at the PDH's central office, which is expected to benefit over 400 employees by offering timely and quality healthcare at their workplace. The clinic will provide general medical consultations, chronic disease management, pregnancy monitoring, laboratory results delivery, and prescription services without requiring employees to leave their work site.
Jonathan Hernández, a PDH notifier, said: "There are quite a few benefits since we have accessibility and IGSS services in our institution."
IGSS Board President José Adolfo Flamenco Jau highlighted that this model of care has enabled the expansion and proximity of social security services to workplaces. "The first challenge was to create technological conditions to safeguard institutional information and establish secure communication bridges with external units and affiliates," Flamenco Jau stated.
PDH Human Rights Ombudsman Dr. José Alejandro Córdova expressed satisfaction with the new clinic: "Thank you Instituto Guatemalteco de Seguridad Social. We are making a dream come true for two institutions that watch over human rights, especially the right to health."
Alongside the inauguration, IGSS organized a Social Security Day event featuring laboratory screenings aimed at early disease prevention and diagnosis.
Nancy Castro from PDH Human Resources commented on the convenience: "This space they provide us is very positive because it helps minimize the time needed for us to receive medical assistance, get lab tests done, and get vaccinated—all things that are difficult to prioritize during working hours."
The Empresa Clinic Care System is designed to bring medical coverage directly into workplaces across Guatemala.
