The Guatemalan Social Security Institute (IGSS) has opened a new workplace clinic at Hospital El Pilar. The event was led by José Adolfo Flamenco Jau, president of IGSS, who said that the partnership “brings health services closer to many more affiliates” and reinforces the institution’s commitment to providing quality care for Guatemalan workers.
Flamenco Jau, together with officials from Hospital El Pilar, participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new facility. During his remarks, Francisco Javier Gódinez Jerez, head of the Health Benefits Sub-management at IGSS, stated: “This act demonstrates that when health is cared for as a team, life advances with strength, hope and purpose.” He also recognized Hospital El Pilar’s 62-year history since its founding in 1963 and its role in developing Guatemala’s health system.
Hospital employees Beatriz Aguirre and Anderson Mikery expressed gratitude to Social Security for making these health services available without interrupting their work duties.
Before the opening ceremony, a health day was held offering vital sign checks, laboratory services and preventive care. Federico Ranero Cabarrús and Daniel Visa García from Hospital El Pilar said that the new clinic “will improve the quality of life of workers” and strengthen prevention efforts in the workplace.
With this addition, IGSS continues to expand its model of workplace clinics aimed at delivering comprehensive medical care and prevention directly at job sites. This approach underlines IGSS’s ongoing commitment to supporting employee well-being across Guatemala.
The newly inaugurated clinic is expected to serve over 900 staff members at Hospital El Pilar by bringing medical services into their work environment. The launch included activities promoting healthy habits and early disease detection among hospital employees.
