Guatemalan migrants living in the United States now have the option to voluntarily join the Instituto Guatemalteco de Seguridad Social (IGSS). This program allows them to access medical services for their families and receive a lifelong monthly pension upon reaching 60 years of age, provided they have made 240 contributions.
To enroll in the "Protección al Migrante Guatemalteco y a su Núcleo Familiar" program, applicants must complete an electronic form available on the IGSS website. The form can be downloaded from https://www.igssgt.org/trabajador-migrante/. After filling out and signing the form, it should be uploaded back to the website along with digital images or scanned copies of required documents.
The necessary documents include:
- The signed Unique Registration Form for Migrants and Beneficiaries.
- One of the following: Personal Identification Document (DPI), passport, consular identification, or affiliation card.
- A recent digital photograph.
- Any other documents requested on the website.
For those wishing to register a spouse or partner as a beneficiary, additional documentation is needed:
- The signed registration form indicating residence.
- Marriage certificate or certification of common-law union.
- DPI of the beneficiary.
For children under seven years old being registered as beneficiaries, parents must provide:
- The signed registration form indicating residence.
- Birth certificate(s) of child(ren).
- DPI of either parent.
The IGSS encourages migrants to secure their own and their family's future through this program.
"We are one IGSS closer to you!"
