MAGA Guatemala, an organization active on social media, posted a series of messages on December 7, 2025, addressing public safety and animal welfare during the holiday season. The posts focused primarily on the increased use of fireworks and its impact on pets.

In a tweet published at 18:30 UTC, MAGA Guatemala advised followers to take precautions for their pets during the festive period. #SuBienestarEsNuestraPrioridad https://t.co/HTS3tni8Gl".

Later that evening at 20:00 UTC, the organization expressed condolences in another post: "Expresamos nuestras condolencias por tan lamentable pérdida.

The "Quema del Diablo," or "Burning of the Devil," is an annual Guatemalan tradition held every December 7th where households burn effigies and set off fireworks as part of pre-Christmas festivities. This event often leads to heightened levels of noise in neighborhoods across the country, which can cause stress among domestic animals due to their sensitivity to loud sounds.
