The Ministerio de Cultura y Deportes de Guatemala has highlighted recent initiatives and recognitions aimed at promoting cultural preservation and community engagement across the country, according to a series of posts on its official X account.
On December 5, 2025, the Ministry acknowledged Lemus Gordillo for her role as director of the Biblioteca “Licenciado Bernardo Lemus Mendoza” in Purulhá, Baja Verapaz.
Later that day, the Ministry reported on the GEMAS award ceremony recognizing efforts in cultural and environmental conservation.
In another post from December 5, 2025, the Ministry shared information about support for traditional performances in Baja Verapaz.
The Etnodrama Rabinal Achí is recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2005. This designation underscores its importance as part of Guatemala’s living traditions and highlights ongoing efforts to maintain its practice within local communities.
These initiatives reflect broader national strategies to safeguard both tangible and intangible heritage while supporting individuals who contribute significantly to their communities’ cultural life.
